Mission

To provide a professional network for the delivery of educational resources, training and technical support to the adult education community.

Adult Education Training and Resource Center

Objectives

  • To work with adult educators in South Carolina to identify and develop instructional programs and courseware that will assist adults in:

1.  Becoming literate and obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency

2.  Obtaining the educational skills necessary for them to become full partners in the educational development of their children

3.  Completing secondary school education                  

  • To provide training and technical assistance to South Carolina adult educators in the set-up, delivery and evaluation of projects and initiatives focused on the adult learner

  • To serve as a clearing house for adult education issues, resources and best practices.

  General Information

The Adult Education Training and Resource Center (TRC) was originally established in 1998 as the South Carolina Workplace Resource Center, under funding by the South Carolina Department of Education, Office  of Adult and Community Education.  The name was changed in October 2005, to better reflect the current   role of the center.

Key Responsibilities

The Adult Education Training and Resource works with and through the 4 Regional Adult    Educational Technical Assistance Centers (RAETAC)s throughout South Carolina.  The 4    RAETACs are as follows:

Services of the TRC include the following:

  1. Collect and house resource materials appropriate to adult education

  2. Disseminate instructional materials, research and best practices to SC Adult Education  providers

  3. Write original curriculum contextual to the roles of adults as workers, citizens and family members

  4. Provide training and technical assistance in the start-up, implementation, and evaluation of    adult  education projects and initiatives

  5. Train instructors in the use of instructional resources and strategies

  6. Promote adult education as the basic skills training component for the economic development  of  South Carolina

  7. Perform other services requested by Adult Education providers to meet the adult literacy    needs of  their communities
