The GED Teacher Academy

The GED Teacher Academy, developed by Charan Lee and sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Adult and Community Education, is designed to train full and part-time adult education teachers in the delivery of a quality statewide GED program. The course qualifies for three hours of graduate credit through the College of Charleston and counts for district re-certification points.

Full-time and part-time teachers are required to take this course in order to teach GED classes in South Carolina’s Adult Education programs.  Training is conducted on a year-round basis to accommodate varying schedules, and is delivered at locations across the state.  See the current brochure on this website for further details.

The goal of this training initiative is to posture South Carolina Adult Education to be THE delivery system for GED preparation in South Carolina.  It is anticipated that the GED Academy will produce the following outcomes:

  1. An enhanced quality of instruction in GED programs in South Carolina.

  2. A higher percentage of pre-GED candidates who progress to the GED level.

  3. An increased number of South Carolinians who successfully pass the GED.

  4. A higher recruitment and retention rate in GED programs.

  5. An increased number of GED graduates who transition to higher education and training.
