Transition Specialist

Back to Statewide Initiatives

In its 2005 session, the South Carolina legislature appropriated 1.6 million new dollars for adult education to enhance its ability to serve the young adult population (17 - 21 year old students).  This money is being used to increase the graduation rate of South Carolina's youth and to promote their entrance into higher education and training or into the world of work.

Part of this initiative is the creation of transition specialists who will recruit students who have dropped out of the regular school system and assist them in completing their high school credential.  The transition specialists will also coordinate and collaborate with the school community, local agencies, technical colleges, and the Armed Forces to guide and counsel students in choosing a career path.  Every effort will be made to assist students to successfully transition from adult education to higher education or the world of work.
